With a vision to serve humanity The Craniofacial Center situated in the capital city of Province 2 i.e., Janakpurdham, was established in the year 2017 by Dr. Sunil Sah and the local team. Dr. Sunil Sah is presently a consultant Maxillofacial surgeon practicing in the United Kingdom. In the year 2015 a massive earthquake hit Nepal which led to loss of countless lives as well as property. This earthquake made the system realize the need for upgrading the health care system around the country. Hence the Craniofacial Center came into existence with an aim to provide high-quality patient care with low or no cost at all. The Craniofacial Center not only provides free treatment to the people in need but also is involved in training the local workforce. The population of Province 2 is around 6 million and it shares its border with the northern part of Bihar which has a population of around 66 million. As there are no designated other Craniofacial Hospitals in Province 2 as well as the Northern part of Bihar, our Centre has a lot of potential and scope to cater to the needs of such a large population. The Craniofacial Center is supported by FUTURE FACES and IN TOUCH GLOBAL FOUNDATION which are UK based International NGO ’ s. With their help the Centre is able to 1) provide free treatment to the babies born with cleft deformities or other craniofacial abnormalities and 2) train the young maxillofacial surgeons as well as other staffs associated with Cleft care. The Craniofacial Center started its work with ground zero and as the time passed by, the number of cases/patients increased drastically which ultimately warranted the need of a new and spacious hospital so that everybody can get the treatment they deserve without any delay. Hence the construction started for the same in the year 2020 and by the end of May,2021 the work of our new Craniofacial Center ’ s building concluded. As the center was getting prepared for the Craniofacial stuffs, India and Nepal got badly affected with the deadly second wave of COVID-19. The government in this part of the world was as usual not prepared for the calamity and many lost their loved ones. People were struggling to get even a bed in the hospital, desperate enough for procuring basic things like Oxygen, Medicines etc. The Craniofacial Center from Day One itself has worked towards the betterment of the people and tried to help the society in every way possible. Therefore, The Craniofacial Center converted its newly constructed building into 20 bedded COVID-19 ISOLATED CENTER in collaboration with the PROVINCIAL HOSPITAL, JANAKPURDHAM & NRNA NCC OF USA in this need of an hour. In the Isolation center the COVID patients are given free food, free medicines, continuous Oxygen supply for the patients in need, 24 hours Power backup with Doctors, Nursing staffs and other Paramedics round the clock. The Doctors and Paramedics within the Isolation center are also given support from the COVID-19 Consultants around the world through video conferencing. The Craniofacial Center also provides free accommodation and free food to the staff on duty in the residential part of the building. The main aim of this idea is to make sure that we are able to reach as many people as possible infected with the COVID-19 who need care and also to make sure that no one should die on the road or due to lack of proper infrastructure. Apart from these, the Craniofacial Center is involved in various other activities too, to contribute to the welfare of society as a whole. During the first wave of COVID-19 in the year 2020, the Center distributed the food to the people who lost their jobs due to the pandemic. Besides that, masks and sanitizer distribution programs were organized to help people understand the importance of hand hygiene, social distancing, and use of masks to battle the COVID-19 at individual level. During the same time Center also provided Free Dental Treatment to needy people who could not afford the procedures, following the proper COVID-19 protocols. Janakpurdham is a sacred city that is very rich culturally and people here celebrate festivals with full zeal and enthusiasm. During Dussehra a camp was organized where the crowd were briefed about the importance of social distancing and use of masks/shields. Thereafter Face Shields were also distributed among the people so that they can protect themselves during the festive time. The Craniofacial Center has always been very keen to teach/train the local professionals. This is accomplished by conducting weekly Clinical Meetings, monthly Webinars attended by people from all over the world, Virtual ward rounds with senior consultants, Article writing for some Journal etc. Even the surgeons from all over the world visit the Center and train local Maxillofacial Surgeons and help them in developing the surgical skills. The local Maxillofacial surgeons are also sent to higher centers for further training so that they may come back and contribute towards the development of a nation.
