NDA Journal 2021

GENERALSECRETARY’SREPORT 2020-2021 In March 2021, NDAUK teamed up with Tideturner films to show a pay per view for charity, a documentary called “ Belmaya ” . This was a very touching documentary about a young Dalit girl in Pokhara who went through hardship to become a photographer. In total this raised our charity wing over £450. Covid-19 Assistance for Nepal. With the pandemic just taking off in Nepal and unfortunately the numbers of infections & deaths in Nepal starting to rise, NDA UK are very aware of the potential serious consequences for our Nepalese people back in Nepal. As we all know, the healthcare infrastructure is ill equipped to deal with the potential high number of cases likely in Nepal. Our aim as a charity this year is to help out rural health care centres by providing oxygen concentrators, thus helping covid-19 patients with breathing difficulties. So far we have donated some vital life saving equipment to Garahun Primary Hospital, Waling , Syangja in June 2020. As we all know with the onset of the second COVID -19 pandemic wave in Nepal from the Delta Variant originating from India, Nepal’s fragile healthcare was completely overwhelmed. NDAUK has been predominantly focused this year on helping the COVID 19 crisis in Nepal over the last few months. Firstly in collaboration with ANMF (America Nepal Medical Foundation, and HExN (Health Exchange Nepal), we have helped to set up a field hospital in the isolataion centre located Radha SwamiCentre at Samakhushi (Kathmandu). A huge thanks to our well wishers and NDAUK family and our Nepalese communities in helping to raise around £12000 for the cause. NDA UK and HEXN contributed £10,000 each (so £20000 in total) which paid for room partitions & oxygen pipeline set up amongst other areas of the set up. This is now a fully operational 80 bed field hospital which so far has treated many patients and helped save so many lives. Women ’ s health & COVID 19 for the community was again held on 31 st January 2021, led by Drs Suchana Dhital & Chandani Roka Magar. Since second wave of COVID -19 hit hard in Nepal, especially lack of oxygen supply, we were invited to give suggestions and support in virtual meeting organised by Society of Nepalese Engineers UK which led to the extended meeting of fellows Nepalese in the UK and resulted in huge fund collection to send more than 100 oxygen concentrators to Nepal. We were also invited to attend a meeting with frontline health workers in Lumbini province which resulted in support with oxygen concentrators in remote Rukum, Rolpa and Salyan districts (in collaboration with HExN) and Tele Consultation in management of COVID 19 patients, thanks to Drs Sudhir Lohani and Mohan Thapa. NDA UK JOURNAL, JULY 2021 in collaboration with ANMF (America Nepal Medical Foundation, and HExN (Health Exchange Nepal), we have helped to set up a field hospital in the isolataion centre located Radha SwamiCentre at Samakhushi (Kathmandu).
