NDA Journal 2021
GENERAL SECRETARY’S REPORT 2020-2021 DR S AN J E E B N E P A L I Dear colleagues, respected senior members, friends and NDA family, Once again it’s a great privilege for me to present the NDA UK General Secretary’s Report in my second year in this role. I have been on the executive committee now for almost six years, three and half of which was as the treasurer. Our NDA UK committee, led by example by our chairman Dr. Ramesh Khoju, as usual have been very hard working, are very talented and have made my task so much easier and enjoyable. The team has been excellent to work with and I feel blessed and lucky to be working together with them. Once again what a year we have all had with the ever present COVID-19 pandemic. I do hope you and your families have all stayed safe in these unprecedented times and have coped with the disruptions it has caused to all our lives. Despite the disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic this year once again, notably the cancellation for the second year running of the re-scheduled AGM in Durham for July 2021, NDA UK has continued to be very active if not more active than before. I’m once again delighted to say that so much progress and hard work has been put in by our charity wing as well as by many members of our NDA UK family in the past year. I am sure that you have all been saddened by the news of Dr. Subarna Man Shrestha and Dr. Bibek Bahadur Pradhan, who both passed away recently. As always our heartfelt condolences and our thoughts have been with their respective families. Charity News and Activities Our charity wing has been very active and currently has 4 trustees: : Dr. Shabin Joshi ( Chairman) Dr. Sanjeeb Nepali ( Secretary) Dr. Kaushalendra Karn ( Treasurer) Dr. Kamal Aryal ( Trustee) This year has been the year of collaboration with other like minded medically focused organisations not just in the UK, but also trans- Atlantic. So much work has been done to help Nepal by NDAUK and our NDA UK family that it would simply not be possible to mention everything. I am simply summarising what we have achieved in the last year. Most of our charitable work has been focused on helping Nepal in its COVID -19 fight. Prior to the current wave of the Delta variant, there was already a lot of support provided to Nepal. These included: In collaboration with HExN (Health Exchange Nepal), COVID 19 we provided support to Dhulikhel hospital with Oxygen concentrators in October 2020. More detail to follow but a lot of Covid related webinars to be informative and support our Nepalese folk in the UK as well as in Nepal and worldwide. A huge thanks to all our NDAUK members who have actively helped in these unprecedented times. All these activities were very well received & attended . To summarise, these have been the following: In October 2020, a virtual collaboration with the Federation of Nepalese journalists (FNJUK), Nepalese Nursing Association (NNA UK) & NRNAUK was done to conduct talk programmes.
